Holiday Plant Styling Ideas from Houseplant Stylists

As deciduous trees drop their leaves and the world outside becomes rich with bare branches and snow covered grass, we bring the outdoors in for the season! Holiday plant decorating is a beautiful way to transform your space into a cozy, festive, oasis as well as get creative and crafty with your loved ones. I always like to put my own spin on traditions, so here are some seasonal plant styling ideas that you don’t see every day!

Expand Your Color Palette

Red and green are the classic color combo for Christmas, of course, but I love the idea of straying away from that a bit, pulling in oranges, blues, and varied shades of green and red. A great way to make this look cohesive is to use natural preserved foliage like blue juniper berries and dried magnolia branches.

Little Trees Everywhere

Don’t get me wrong, I love a show stopping spruce or fir Christmas tree for the holidays, but there’s something so cozy to me about a sparse little Charlie Brown style tree, especially if you find yourself pressed for space. Norfolk Pines are a unique option that you can keep year round! I love the negative space the Norfolk Pine offers, rather than the dense foliage of a traditional Christmas tree. Another favorite spin on a traditional tree that I love is evergreen branches in a vase adorned with ornaments and ribbon!

Go For The Real Stuff

Nothing will elevate your seasonal plant styling more than preserved evergreen foliage, trust me, the difference is game changing. Preserved garland and wreaths are the perfect opportunity to get crafty and the possibilities are endless! I love the look of adding dramatic ribbon, dried oranges, paper stars, dried amaranth, and branches to your preserved evergreen arrangements.

A Wreath of One’s Own

I’ve seen so many stunning non-traditional wreaths this season. My personal favorites are made of spanish moss and amaranth! You can also combine dried berry branches, tinsel, and eucalyptus to create a one of a kind wreath.

I hope that these ideas can inspire you to put your own spin on holiday plant decoration! If you find yourself looking for a professional touch, we offer seasonal plant styling and would love to work with you!

Until then, Happy Holidays!
